Submission

  • How many photos can I submit?

    • Students may submit up to three photos for initial consideration. Unfortunately, our gallery will only have enough space to accept one framed image per student. If you do submit more than one image, the BPW team will review your submissions and let you know which one would be best for the show.

  • What kind of photo is good for the show?

    • All genres of photos are acceptable! We encourage students to choose images they are truly proud of. This being a family oriented event, the BPW may not accept images which have explicit content.

  • Where do I submit my photos for the show?

    • Students will receive a Dropbox link after they complete enrollment.

Printing & Framing

  • Where can I print my photo?

    • As stated above in the “Print & Frame Specifications" we suggest trying El-co Color Labs, Costco (requires membership), Hunts, ColorTek, WHCC, Nations Photo Lab.

  • How should I edit my photo for printing?

  • What size should I print my photo?

    • This is a personal choice for every photographer. We encourage larger prints so students may realize the potential of their camera. This will require practice and patience, but is very rewarding. Print sizes you may consider:  8.5"x11", 11"x14" or 16"x20". We will limit the frame size at 16"x20" to ensure room for all students in the show. Please consider the size of your mat, if desired, when determining the size of your print.

  • How do I know if my photo is large enough for printing?

    • A rule of thumb for prints & sizes: 3 megabytes (MB) can print up to 8.5"x11", 6MB for 11"x14", or 10-12MB for 16"x 20". Please allow for slight variations in these figures (1-2MB). We encourage enrolling in a Lightroom Classic 1 or Lightroom Classic 2 class to learn more about resizing photos.

  • What’s better for a print: .jpg or .raw?

    • Both formats can work for printing, but to ensure the highest quality when printing, you should edit .raw photos, then save as .jpg’s (at the appropriate file size) to share with a printer.

  • Do you offer a printing class?

  • We do! Take a look at upcoming class dates for Lightroom Classic: Printing Photos.

  • The BPW has created a video for participants to help create better prints using Lightroom Classic. You can watch the video upon registration.

  • Can the BPW print my photo for me?

    • Sadly, the BPW cannot offer printing services for the student showcase.

  • How much will printing/framing cost?

    • Printing and framing takes time and is an additional cost that should be considered. Prints can cost $20-$50 for 11"x14" to 16"x20" and multiple attempts at prints is typical to ensure accurate rendering. (Even the best printers don't get it on the first try).

Framing for 16"x20" can cost $100-$200 depending on your service provider. You can save money significantly by framing yourself, but it will take much more time and patience. For first time printers, we encourage asking a service provider for assistance.

  • Where can I frame my photo?

    • As stated above in the “Print & Frame Specifications" we suggest trying Framers Workshop, The Picture Store, Fort Point Framers, Around the Corner Framing, or Blick Art Supplies

  • I already have a frame, can I use that?

    • If you have a frame that meets the requirements — with hooks & wire, no larger than 16x20" —then yes!

  • I won’t be here for one of the drop-off dates, can I still participate?

    • As long as your framed artwork is wrapped and has your name and title on a securely attached card, a friend or family member can drop off your work to the BPW studio in your absence.

Gallery Reception

  • Can anyone come to the reception?

    • Yes! We hope that students will invite friends, family, coworkers, and anyone else who enjoys photography to the show. We ask that people register for the event, which is free entry, using the registration link we will share closer to the event.

  • When/how can people see my artwork?
