Understanding Lenses & Focus

Lenses play a pivotal role in photography, determining how much we capture in a picture and the sharpness of our subjects. Focusing and lenses are inseparable, so we’ll also learn the critical focusing tools found inside our cameras to get the most out the lens, and the sharpest photos possible.

After this workshop, you’ll feel comfortable with lens types and terminology, understand which features are important, improve your focus techniques, and know how to select your next lens based on your specific interests.

What you’ll learn:

  • Focal lengths & their importance in photography

  • Types of lenses & special features

  • How to choose a lens

  • Focus points & focus modes

  • Improving focus

What to Bring:

  • Camera with manual mode settings (DSLR, mirrorless, advanced point-and-shoots).

  • Fully charged battery.

  • Empty memory card.

  • Notepad + pen.
