Some have to work through their problems with no guidance and others learn from a young age with guidance, how to fix problems that arise. working on motorcycles is a great equalizer, though sometimes the parts are pricey putting it all together right is the real craft, matching up just the right parts whether for looks or performance is a great accomplishment. Some take this skill/gift all the way through life and build bikes with pride to show off to everyone at shows and win trophies for their hard work.
