City Lights

In photography, light is our medium. The light paints the scene. This can dramatically change a single scene depending on the time of day. This is especially true in the city where you have the sun as your light during the day and artificial lights at night. I find that many times during the day, I struggle to find an interesting photograph with the harsh light of the sun. For me, this daytime light can be overwhelming and I find myself narrowing my focus. At night, I can open the scene to let more light in - the artificial light adds color, movement and the darkness balances this light. It's almost as if I'm solving for light being a finite amount in each photo. The result is a different perspective in the same location in the day and at night.
