While natural light is a great choice for a number of photographic situations, having the gear and know-how to use a basic lighting system is an important step in any photographer’s journey.
Contrary to popular belief, a fundamental lighting kit doesn’t have to break the bank, or be overly complicated. Here, we’ve laid out two basic lighting kits—one very simple and cheap, and one with a few more bells and whistles—as well as some extras that any photographer using external light sources will find handy.
Thank you to everyone who came out to support the BPW’s second annual Student Showcase at our opening reception on December 5, 2018! This year’s group of artists created a collection of stunning imagery, from landscape and travel to food and nature. We couldn’t be prouder of you all!
Check out this year’s submissions in the gallery below, and feel free to come and view the photos in person at the Multicultural Arts Center in Cambridge, open Monday-Friday, 10:30am-6pm, now through January 4. Many of the prints are also for sale if you’re looking for a special holiday gift (proceeds benefit the artist)!
One of the most popular questions we get from entry-level photographers here at the BPW is “What camera should I buy?” If you’re in the market for a good starter camera for yourself, or even a special holiday gift for the photographer-in-training in your life, here are three of our 2017 favorites to help point you in the right direction!
Struggling to find the perfect gift for the shutterbug in your life? The BPW has got you covered. The holiday season is right around the corner and we found some fun and inexpensive gifts for your photographer friends and family — or for yourself!
It's time for the latest BPW Student Spotlight, where we highlight a different member of our talented community to learn more about how our students turn their passion for photography into freelance work, fulfilling hobbies, or even full-time careers. This month: wedding and event photographer Chris Williams!
The BPW is all about adventure and exploration. This past weekend we held a day trip photo walk in the historic city of Salem, MA. The city best known for Halloween also has charm outside of October. Our students and instructors strolled through the city and photographed the charming historic downtown capturing the seen and often unseen side of Salem. Check out our other upcoming "Special Event" classes held throughout the year and updated regularly. The BPW believes photography is the best excuse to get out and explore!
